· People keep a strict fast on this day. Some devotees refrain from taking even a drop of water.
· The Shiva Lingam is worshipped throughout the night, it is washed every three hours with milk, curd, honey, rose water, simultaneously with the chanting of the Mantra ‘Om Namah Shivaya’.
· Offerings of Bael leaves, Til, Jav, Lotus, Fruits of Vijora, etc are made to the Lingam. Bael leaves are very sacred, it is said, Lakshmi resides in them.
· Devotees take bath in the holy water of the Ganga (Symbol of the purity) early in the morning before sunrise and wear clean clothes after the sacred bath.
Devotees visit Kashi Vishwanath temple in the hope to get their wishes fulfilled.
