The festival is dedicated to the 8th avatar of lord Vishnu who is called Krishna, Madhav, Gopal etc. fondly. The entire day is celebrated with unmatched gradeur and magnificence. People keep fast for the entire day and night and eat only after Lord Krishna is born at midnight. The Krishna temples are beautifully decorated with lights and balloons and His Notorious activities and beautiful face charms his devotees. Janamashtami is a grand festival for Krishna Devotees who celebrate it like a child is born in their own family. People keep fast for 24 hours and only eat during the midnight, the time that is believed to be the birth time of Lord Krishna. The entire day is filled with pomp and shows. Krishna-Radha raasleela are organised with never seen before beauty. The temples witness thousands of devotees singing Krishna Bhajans and they make preparation to welcome the new born Lord Krishna. The festival is celebrated on the 8th day of the Krishna Paksha of the Bhadrapada month. The celebration in Mathura and Vrindavan is magnificent and charming. people sing songs in praise of him.

PUJA VIDHI
The Krishna Janamashtami puja vidhi is very simple yet very rewarding. Following ingredients should be kept ready for the Krishna Janamashtami puja. Panchamrit, laung, janeu, supari, incense sticks, haldi, chandanmatch box, earthen pots,keshar, elaichi, donamoli, roli, rice, honey, mishri, mustard oil, camphor, fruits, coconut, sweets, kalash and a red cloth. The Krishna Janamashtami Puja vidhi is as follows:
· Clean the entire house and the place of worship.
· Give Lord Krishna’s idol a ceremonial bath.
· Decorate the idol with beautiful jewellery and clothes.
· Shower gangajal and Panchamrit on the idol.
· Put tilak and chandan on Lord Krishna’s idol.
· Offer him sweets and other delicacies.
· Chant all the names of the supreme power Lord Krishna
· Offer him Makhan mishri.
· Sing aartis in praise of Lord Krishna.
· Offer Prasad to everyone in the house.
